Pines Bridge Monument Fundraiser to take Place at Applebees
Michael Kanh is holding fundraiser on September 15.

Michael Kahn is holding a fundraiser at Applebee's in the Cortlandt Town Center on September 15 to help pay for the Pines Bridge Monument. In addition, ten percent of the bill will be donated by the restaurant to the Yorktown Historical Society.
In 1781 soldiers were fighting in the American Revolution on local land and now Kahn wants to place part of history in town. He will bring history to life by erecting a life-size monument commemorating those soldiers.
Kahn has proposed to place a bronze statue at the corner of Routes 100 and 118, which would feature three soldiers of the 1st Rhode Island Regiment, whose duties were to protect the Pines Bridge, which is where the battle took place.

The estimated cost of the monument is $100,000, which Kahn said would be paid for through grants and private donations.
The monument, approximately 6 feet 6 inches, would feature three life-size soldiers, a white, black, and Native American soldier. They would represent all cultures involved, and that way everybody would be respected, Kahn said.

During the last fundraiser on August 14 at Finnegan's Bar and Grill, a silent auction was held with mostly sports memorabilia to raise funds for the monument. In approximately two hours, they raised $652.00, Kanh said, with $367 being from the silent auction, $185 in door donations, and a $100 donation made by a patron.
Now people can dine at Applebee's on September 15 and present the attached flyer to their server for the donation to count. It's valid from the 11 a.m. opening until they close at midnight. Photostat copies are accepted as well.
Applebee's will donate 10 percent of the bill to the Yorktown Historical Society to help pay for the monument.
