Police Blotter: Teens Jump off Trestle Bridge, House Burglarized of $10,000 Worth of Jewelry

A round of police activity for the week of September 3 to September 9, including a break-in, spray painting of cars, DWIs, marijuana and cocaine busts, trestle jumping teens, and domestic incidents.

Trestle Bridge Jumpers

Police received a call on September 3 at 4:23 p.m. that two 13-year-olds were jumping off the Trestle Bridge into the Croton Reservoir. The County Police and watershed police department were notified. The Department of Environmental Protection and county police handled the incident. They found 5 five youths (four were under 16 years old and and one of them was over the age of 16). They were turned over to parents, and in addition the teen, who was over the age of 16 was charged with trespass, a violation. 

Another Trestle Incident

Police received a report on September 4 at 3:58 p.m. that a boy was on top of the trestle bridge. The Westchester County of Public Safety were notified and a second caller reported the youth climbed down, got on his bike and left.

Criminal Mischief

A Yorktown man was arrested after he intentionally kicked and damaged a vehicle, state police said. Brian O. Bermeo, 18, was arrested on Saturday, September 4 at 1:30 p.m. on Locust Avenue in Cortlandt. He was charged with third degree criminal mischief. The man is due in court at the Town of Cortlandt on September 13. 

HARASSMENT

Police arrested an 18-year-old Jefferson Valley resident after she allegedly pushed an 18-year-old Shrub Oak female against a vehicle and punched her in the face. Police did not release the defendant's name due to her eligibility for youthful offender status. She was charged with second degree harassment, a violation. She is due in court on September 14.

HARASSMENT

Police arrested Frank J. Hardman, 50, of Yorktown Heights, for pushing an 18-year-old female on the shoulder and holding her against a wall during a domestic incident. Police Officer Pavlevich made the arrest and charged Hardman with second degree harassment, a violation. The man is due in court September 30. 

HOME BURGLARIZED OF JEWELRY 

Police received a report on September 7 at 6:11 p.m. from a Curry Street resident that the house was broken into and items were missing. Police said there was $10,000 worth of jewelry stolen. The subject was able to get in the house through an unlocked living room window. The residents were working, while the incident happened between 7:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. There was a disconnected computer in the house, which was not taken. No other houses were targeted. 

Driving While Intoxicated

Juancarlo S. Manuel, 26, of Mt. Kisco, was arrested after police observed the man driving on Route 202 on the roadway shoulder and failing to stay within a lane on September 4. Police officer Sgroi stopped the car and following an investigation, determined the man was driving drunk. Manuel is charged with a DWI, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or more, failure to maintain lane and driving on shoulder. He is due in court on October 5. 

Spray Painted Cars

On September 4, several residents complained their cars have been spray painted. Among them were residents of Buckhorn Street, Poplar Street, London Road, Sycamore Lane, Edgehill Road, Somerston Road, and Union Road. Police said teens were responsible for the deed.

STOLEN VEHICLES AND SPRAY PAINT

Police received a report of a criminal tampering on September 7 at 10:55 a.m., a past larceny, a reckless endangerment, and a past burglary at Sports Barn, 2918 Crompond Road. Officer Jason Swart responded to the case. Police said two vehicles were stolen, and the subjects broke into the shed and took spray paints. It in uncertain if the theft and spray painting of cars incident in Yorktown are related. 

Man Hopes his TV will Reapppear

A Crompond Road resident reported on September 4 at 7:15 p.m. that a TV was taken from his home. The incident had occurred on August 15 between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. The man had bought a 55-inch plasma TV from Rent-A-Center, and he told police he was hoping it would reappear before reporting it stolen. There were no witnesses to crime and no suspects, police said. 

Drunk Driver and Criminal Possession of Cocaine

Police arrested Noelle Pungello, 24, of Lake Peekskill, and Aleksandra Halerz, 21, of Yorktown Heights on September 5 at 9:30 p.m. after a property damage accident at the Valley Market. Upon investigation police determined the driver, Pungello, was in an intoxicated condition, and had a blood alcohol level of .18 percent or more. In addition, the passenger, Halerz, was in possession of cocaine. Both women were released to another party without bail. They are due in court on October 5. 

Juvenile Delinquency

Police arrested a 13-year-old male, of Mohegan Lake, following a domestic dispute. Allegedly the boy damaged property and hit or attempted to hit household occupants with broken pieced of doors. Police did not release his name because of his eligibility for youthful offender status. Had he been an adult, he would have been charged with third degree assault, third degree criminal mischief and reckless endangerment, all misdemeanors, police said. The boy and his parent appeared in Family Court on September 7. 

Domestic Dispute

Police responded to a New Road domestic incident on September 7 at 5:35 p.m. Officers Foley, Sansone, Iacona, Getner and Perrotto responded. Yorktown medics and the Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps were dispatched for an eye injury, and child protective services were informed because the child was at the house during the incident. No arrests were made. 

Marijuana Possesion

Police arrested a 17-year-old male for possession of marijuana on September 7 at 9:53 p.m. Police officer Ryan Noone was on patrol on Underhill Avenue when he saw youths sitting in a parked car and "acting suspiciously" and when he got to the car he smelled marijuana. Police did not release the name of the defendant because of his possible youthful offender status. He is charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and is due in court on October 7. 

No registration, license and vehicle insurance

While Michael A. Meyering, 45, of Yorktown, was traveling east on Crompond Road on September 8, a plate reader was activated indicating he was driving with a suspended registration. After the car was stopped, a computer check revealed Meyerings driver's license was suspended and his vehicle was uninsured. In addition, he was additionally charged with possession of non-prescribed Lorazepam tablets. He was arrested at the scene and transported to police headquarters. He is due in court on October 7.

Drunk Teen Not Complying

An 18-year-old male was arrested for driving while intoxicated on September 8 at 4:20 a.m. after police received a reports of disorderly youths congregating at the Chestnut Mobil station, 2035 Saw Mill River Rd. who then left in a described to police vehicle.

Police officer Angel Garcia was located the vehicle on Route 202 and proceeded to stop the vehicle, which did not initially stop, and additional police units were dispatched. As a result of the stop, the male was arrested for driving drunk. In addition he was driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or more. The man was released to the custody of his parents and is due in court on October 7. 

Traffic Violation Leads to Marijuana Bust

A traffic violation stop resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old Yorktown male for possession of marijuana. Officer Ryan Noone smelled marijuana in the vehicle upon approaching it. The defendant's name is being withheld due to his eligibility for youthful status offender. He was released to a parent and is due in court on October 7.
