Police Blotter: Traffic Stop Results in a DWI, Sleeping Man Charged with Drunk Driving

A round up of police activity from August 13- August 19.

Marijuana Possession

Officer Brian Mundy responded to the Thomas Jefferson School on an unrelated incident on August 13. When he arrived, he saw a male in a gray Honda. Police said he detected the presence of marijuana in the vehicle and after further investigation, placed under arrest the 18-year-old Yorktown Heights resident (whose name is being withheld due to his eligibility for youthful status offender) for possessing approximately 11 grams of pot. The defendant is due in court on August 31. 

Driving While Intoxicated

Police responded to a single-vehicle accident in the area of Allan Avenue on August 13, at 6:26 p.m. After an investigation, police officer Kolkmann determined 19-year-old Gerard E. Fedro, of Yorktown Heights, was driving while intoxicated and with a BAC of more than 0.08 percent. In addition, the man crashed near his home because he was not driving in a reasonable and prudent manner, police said. He is due in court on September 16.

Criminal Contempt

Police arrested Darrell M. Crawford Jr., 29, of Spring Valley, and charged him with criminal contempt in the second degree, a misdemeanor.

At approximately 3:13 p.m. on August 14, a Quinlan Street resident reported a domestic dispute. Officers William Olli and Robert Doerr responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. Allegedly Crawford Jr. appeared at the residence of the resident in violation of temporary order of protections.

He fled the scene prior to police arrival, but surrendered himself at police headquarters later that day. He was arraigned and served a temporary order of protection and released on his own recognizance. He appeared in court on August 17.

Loud Party

Police responded to a noise violation at Gomer Street on August 15  at 6:31 a.m. The loud party was asked to turn down the music.

Burglar Damages Front Door

Police responded to a burglary call at a New Chalet Drive residence on August 15. The homeowner discovered there was damage to the front door. Police determined a juvenile had kicked the door at the residence, and would be charged with the damage to the door.  They arrested a 14-year-old male of Cortlandt Manor on August 18 and charged him with juvenile delinquency. The boy had kicked the door causing $700 worth of damages. 

Sleeping Man Charged With Drunk Driving

New York State Police arrested Kevin A. Beltran, 27, of Cortlandt Manor, and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated. On August 15 at 3:10 a.m. he was asleep in the driver seat at the intersection of St Rt 9a and Old Albany Post Rd. Police said his key was in the ignition, the car was running and was in drive. He is due in Cortlandt Town Court on August 27. 

FALSE ALARM

Police received a call that the smoke detector was going off at an East Main Street residence on August 16. No one was home and the Lake Mohegan Fire Department force entered the top floor of the apartment. They reported everything was normal.

Road RAge

A male reported to police he was assaulted by another motorist on East Main Street, during a road rage incident on August 17 at 1:59 p.m. Officers Sage, Peters and Zaicek responded. The two parties harassed each other, but they refused to file a formal complaint, police said. There were no reported injuries.

Man In need of a ride

Police received a report that a white male in his 20s, described as having brown hair and wearing a blue shirt and shorts, was asking for a ride at the Courtesy Mobil gas station, 1770 East Main St. on August 17 at 2:22 p.m. Police were unable to locate the man.

Shopping for school?

K-Mart store manager observed two suspicious white females and two white males, between the ages of 18 and 21 on August 17 walking around in the store at 355 Downing Dr. He followed them around and when they attempted to steal a backpack, he confronted them. They dropped the backpack on the floor and fled.

Drunk Driver

On August 18 at 9 a.m. State Police in Cortlandt stopped a car for a vehicle and traffic infraction on State Rte 202. An investigation revealed Amanda Ford, 19, of Yorktown, was driving while intoxicated. She was arrested and taken into custody and processed at State Police Mohegan Lake where she provided a breath sample with a BAC 0.14 percent. The defendant was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Cortlandt court on August 27, at 9 a.m.

Graffiti

Police received a call about graffiti done to the Jewish Center building at the Mohegan Park Center, 1690 Decatur Rd.

There were black and blue graffiti and some spray paint. Police said the scribbled comments did not appear to be anti-Semitic.
