Screwdriver-Wielding Man Stabs Victim, Attacks Trooper: NYS Police

SOMERS, NY — A horrific domestic incident in Westchester left two people in the hospital.

On December 5, the New York State Police and the Somers Police Department responded to a domestic incident involving a stabbing in the Town of Somers.

Screams could be heard from inside the residence as the first trooper arrived on scene, according to state police. The trooper forced entry, but the suspect, wielding a screwdriver, refused to comply with commands — and it only got worse from there, police said.

The suspect then attacked the trooper, but was subdued without the trooper getting seriously hurt, according to cops. Other officers arrived on scene and eventually a Taser was used to fully restrain the suspect, later identified as 50-year-old Andujar Heriberto, according to troopers.

The victim in the house suffered stab wounds and was taken to a local area hospital in stable condition.

Heriberto was also taken to a local area hospital for self-inflicted stab wounds.

On December 7, Heriberto was arraigned in the town of Somers Court for felony first degree assault, felony second degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of a child. He was remanded to the Westchester County Jail without bail pending a future court appearance.
