Somers Asks Residents to Sign Petition Against Release of Convicted Murderer

Terry Losicco, who is eligible for parole in March 2013, was sentenced to prison for the murder of long-time resident and civic leader Eleanor R. Prouty and for the near-fatal beating of her husband Norman R. Prouty Sr. in 1980.

Current and former residents of Somers are asked to sign a petition against the release of a man who killed a Somers woman and brutally beat her husband in their home three decades ago.

Terry Losicco, who is eligible for parole in March 2013, was sentenced to prison in 1981 to 27 1/3 years to life for the murder of long-time resident and civic leader Eleanor R. Prouty and for the near-fatal beating of her husband Norman R. Prouty Sr. on May 25, 1980, Brooks S. Prouty posted online.

"Because of the especially violent nature of Losicco's assault on the Prouty family as well as for the scathing impact he inflicted upon the community of Somers (and beyond), current and former residents of Somers oppose his release," Prouty said.

According to a New York Times article, Losicco, who was 17 at the time, and another Lincoln Hall student broke into the Prouty's house in Somers in an attempt to steal money.

Losicco, who was armed with a piece of firewood, attacked 69-year-old Norman Prouty, who was sleeping and suffered from multiple sclerosis. The man robbed 67-year-old Eleanor Prouty, a retired Reader's Digest editor, of about $25 and struck her three times with the club, according to his confession, the paper wrote

Norman Prouty survived the attack and was confined to a nursing home.

"This case rock our community," one person wrote on Facebook. "I remember taking the bus to school and passing Lincoln Hall. There was bars on the windows and guards with rifles walking around. The story that was passed around the bus was a bad boy killed a great lady."

The Parole Board meets in early March and the petition "seeks to send a strong message of support to the New York State Parole Board that we believe Terry Losicco belongs behind bars."

As of Friday afternoon, there were 458 signatures out of the 1,000 needed.

Here is what some of the people who signed the petition wrote:

Please help mend the hearts and minds of all of us who know this horrific story by keeping this monster in jail......the severity of this crime does not warrent him ever to see the light of day!

I remember this as yesterday. We cannot allow the release of this inmate who was responsible for this brutal attack. It was the grandchild of these wonderful people who discovered them on a Sunday morning when picking them up for church. Mr. Losicco has effected the lives of too many good people. In all good consciousness please do not allow the release of such a violent criminal.

I, Patty Maestry Possenti, was friends with Mr. & Mrs. Norman Prouty's daughter, Patty. I was in the Prouty home many, many times over the years. They were two of the most loving and giving people that I have ever known in my life. Neither one of them had any "airs" about them even though they were considered affluent. I knew them from elementary school through junior high, all in the original Somers School, K through 12th grade. Mrs. Prouty was like the mother I didn't have since my Mom died of cancer when I was 5 yrs, 8 months old and hadn't even started school yet. PLEASE DO NOT GRANT PAROLE to Terry Losicco WHO DID SUCH A HORRIFIC CRIME!!! Norman and Eleanor Prouty DID NOT GET TO LIVE a happy life with their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nor did all the Prouty Family get to enjoy their parents/grandparents.

You need to think about poor people's lives he destroyed. This was a premeditated act of violence, and for that he should stay where he is.

As a former resident of Somers when this occurred, the memories of this violent crime have never been forgotten.....horrible, horrible memory that no family , friends or town should ever have to experience.

as one of the first two first responders to the scene i saw first hand what this convict did to mrs. prouty. he should not be considered for parole especially given the fact he showed no mercy for mr. or mrs. prouty please keep do society a favor and keep him in prison. thank you for your consideration in this matter.

I remember the Prouty family well. They were fine people who had a positive impact on the lives of those of us fortunate enough to know them. Their contribution to the town of Somers was enormous and beyond measure. Out of respect to the Prouty family who have suffered so much as a result of Losicco's ghastly deed, I implore you to keep Losicco under lock and key for the rest of his life. Losicco does not deserve to live much less walk the street as a free man. Parole would be an egregious miscarriage of justice.
