The town officially joined the social media site on Thursday to keep its residents informed in a more convenient and user-friendly way.

"After going through Hurricane Sandy and the lack of communication, the one thing that I found was that most people had intermittent cell phone service to check Internet only," said Mary Capoccia, executive assistant to Supervisor Michael Grace. " I was updating my [personal] Facebook page and that's how 'some' information got out."

"Social Media is something that most people use," Capoccia said. "Facebook was created as another means to get the information out to our residents."
