What Should Replace the Former Bed, Bath and Beyond on Route 202 [Poll]?

This now vacant space in the Staples Plaza on Route 202 in Yorktown used to be a Bed, Bath & Beyond store, which moved over to the Cortlandt Town Center. 

When the store's lease was up and the owners were offered a better deal by a the neighboring town, they took the opportunity to move away, Yorktown councilman Terrence Murphy said. 

He speculated that if Bed, Bath & Beyond knew of the , store owners might have reconsidered moving. Yorktown has long had a reputation of being business unfriendly – something officials have been trying to change. 

"I am most certain that we have changed that attitude and will continue to promote business," Murphy said. "I know I am committed to doing this."

When we posed the question of what business should replace the former Bed, Bath & Beyond, our readers posted their thoughts on the Yorktown-Somers Patch Facebook page.

Most of you said you would like to see a Trader Joe's, Christmas Treet Shop, Whole Foods or a Target. Other ideas included Yankee Candle Shop, REI store, aquatic pool, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chuck E. Cheese's, Dick's Sporting Goods, California Pizza Kitchen, Cheescake Factory or a Mexican restaurant.

"Me an my friends love to go rock climbing but the drive is no fun," George Eissa wrote. "Maybe we can get Sky Zone – every kid would be there."

"How about a climbing place like The Cliffs in Valhalla," Heidi Bornemann wrote. "We don't have anything close that's halfway decent."

Another person suggested a roller rink or an alcohol-free dance club to open up. 

"Something for the youth to do to keep them out of the streets and parking lots," George Belliveau wrote. "Wow a lot of ideas that will probably never come to fruition."

"As for any tenants, I thought Trader Joe's would have been good, except I was told they are not doing any new business in New York," Yorktown councilman Murphy said. "I also thought of the Christmas Tree Shop, waiting to hear back. The reality is the owner of the plaza has final say."
