Snow Cancellations and Commuter Updates

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the region with snow, sleet, freezing rain topped with a layer of ice. Get the latest updates here.

With the official start of spring just days away, forecasters are calling for ice, poor visibility and snow to hit the Yorktown and Somers area.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning—which will be in effect from 4 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday—indicating three to five inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain are headed this way.

All Yorktown Central School District activities are cancelled after 4:30 p.m. The Enrichment Centers will remain open as scheduled. The 

Yorktown school board of education meeting, scheduled for Monday night, has been cancelled.

All after-school and evening activities at Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES are canceled.

All evening activities at Somers Central School District are cancelled tonight after 6 p.m. 

All evening activities at Lakeland Central School District on March 18 are cancelled including the District Parents Council meeting. The final 5:15 p.m. activity bus will run. The 5:15 p.m. Drivers Education class is also cancelled. All Continuing Education classes are postponed for Monday evening.

The Van Cortlandtville Elementary School Open House is rescheduled for Wednesday, March 20.

Here's the NWS forecast at of 3:53 p.m.: 

Monday night: Snow before midnight, then snow, freezing rain, and sleet between midnight and 3am, then freezing rain and sleet after 3am. Low around 30. East wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Tuesday: Rain or freezing rain, becoming all rain after noon. High near 41. East wind 5 to 13 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected.

Tuesday night: A chance of rain showers before 9pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 9pm and midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. West wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. West wind 14 to 17 mph.
