Yorktown Cops: Cortlandt Man Steals Identity, Makes Big Purchases

Darrell A. Matthews used a Yorktown woman's credit card information to spend $504 at Radio Shack and $386 at KMart, police said. He also used a Briarcliff Manor woman's credit card information and purchased a $322 video game.

A 29-year-old Cortlandt Manor man is due in Yorktown Town Court Tuesday night to answer charges that he used other people's credit card information to make purchases at local stores, police said. 

Police said Darrell A. Matthews used a Yorktown Heights woman's credit card information to make fraudulent purchases at the Jefferson Valley Mall on Feb. 11. He spent $504.64 at Radio Shack and $386.85 at KMart, police said.

When Matthews returned to Radio Shack on March 1, a store employee recognized him and notified police. The man was brought to police headquarters and was charged with third-degree identity theft, a misdemeanor. 

That's when Yorktown police officer Noone charged Matthews for previous crimes that took place last summer, police said.

On July 20, 2012, police said the man used a forged money card that contained a Briarcliff Manor woman's credit card information to purchase a $322.11 Sony video game system from the Radio Shack store in the Triangle Shopping Center. 

Matthews was charged with second-degree identity theft and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, felonies. 

Matthews was remanded to the Westchester County Jail on $20,000 bail. He is due in court on March 5 at 6 p.m.
