Yorktown To Invest $1.7M To Improve Streetscapes In Business Corridor

Streetscape improvement was a top choice among those who took part in a survey to see how the town should spend pandemic recovery funds.

YORKTOWN, NY — The town of Yorktown will invest $1.7 million in streetscape upgrades in a key business corridor of Yorktown Heights.

The streetscape improvements along Downing Drive will include new sidewalks, curbs and street paving along the street that leads to the new Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace and other businesses.

Officials said the work is expected to begin in the spring.

Supervisor Matt Slater said it is believed this will be a transformative project for the Yorktown Heights hamlet.

“And I know that our businesses are going to benefit directly,” he said.

Streetscape improvement was a top choice among residents who took part in a survey to see how the town should spend pandemic recovery funds.

Councilwoman Luciana Haughwout said their constituents were heard.

“This work will allow us to create a safe place to visit our businesses and walk with our neighbors,” she said.

Town officials said walkable neighborhoods are a priority and that Downing Drive needs improvements to its streetscape in order to fill vacant retail sites, including the former Turco’s supermarket.
