Yorktown Lions Peace Poster Contest; 'Once Upon A Mattress;' Somers Booster Club Meeting

Here are five things you need to know today, Nov. 14.

1. Yorktown Lions Peace Poster Contest

Yorktown Lions Peace Poster Contest is on display at the John C. Hart Memorial Library through the end of November. Lions Clubs worldwide invite middle school students (ages 11,12,13) to reflect upon the theme – "Imagine Peace" –as part of the Lions initiative to promote increased understanding among peoples of the world. 

The submissions from Yorktown area middle school students are on display at the Hart Library. The reception and presentation will be held on Sunday, Nov. 18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

2. "Once Upon A Mattress" at Lakeland High School

The Wig 'n' Whiskers production of "Once Upon A Mattress" has been rescheduled for Friday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The play was originally slated for Friday, Nov. 9 and Saturday, Nov. 10.

3. Lakeland BOE Meeting

The Board of Education will hold its regular business meeting on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in the George Washington Elementary School, 3634 Lexington Ave., Mohegan Lake. The meeting is open to the public and there are two opportunities for public comment. Click here for the agenda.

4. Somers Booster Club Meeting

The Somers Booster Club meeting will be held today at 7 p.m. at the Somers High School. 

5. Senior Benefits Information Center Counselor at Library

The Medicare Open Enrollment is from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7. See a Senior Benefits Information Center counselor at the John C. Hart Memorial Library on Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
