Town Supervisor Tom Diana called the theater a “gem which the town has significantly polished.

“The Town Board understands the importance of having a facility like this in our community for our families to enjoy live performances closed to home,” he said.

The community center and Yorktown Stage complex dates to 1917 when the building opened as a public school. The town bought the school from the Yorktown Central School District in 1979.

Yorktown Stage too over operations of the theater 25 years ago and produced musicals, plays, dance recitals and concerts. The theater also operates a nonprofit organization called Yorktown Stage Kids, whose mission is to promote live theater to children.

Barry Liebman, the Yorktown Stage’s producing-director, said the theater is attracting audiences from beyond northern Westchester County post-pandemic.

“We had more than 1,000 registrations in our summer cap last season, and our dance programs are very popular,” he said. “Our programming is a great way to expose children and adults to Broadway productions and musical theater.”

The makeover of Yorktown Stage was partly funded by a $100,000 state grant for new seating through Senator Pete Harckham. In May, the Town Board voted to provide $1.1 million or the balance of the project.

Nunziata is a Westchester-raised entertainer who will perform classic Broadway love songs, pop, Italian arias and other classic. His song list includes “Somewhere,” “Some Enchanted Evening,” “O Sole Mio,” along with selections from his new jazz/pop album.

The program begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Tickets cost $35 for premium seats and $30 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased at the Yorktown Stage’s website.

Yorktown Stage is located at 1974 Commerce St. in Yorktown Heights.
