Yorktown Teens Raise Money for Cancer; Somers BOE Meeting; Position Appointments

Here are five things you need to know today, March 19.

1. Hoops Challenge Raises More Than $300 for American Cancer Society

More than 60 athletes competed in the Yorktown Teen Center’s fourth annual Hoops Challenge on March 15. The three-point contest was divided into three divisions, middle school, high school and adult. The Teen Center’s Hoops for Hope Relay for Life team raised $330 at the event.

2. Several Position Appointments in Yorktown

Yorktown town board members meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

Items on the agenda include appointing Frank J. Lanzetta, of Somers, as temporary laborer within the highway department; Bridget Krowe will be appointed as a volunteer to the Landmark Preservation Commission; and Geoff Wheeler will be reappointed as Chairperson of the Cable TV Committee. 3. Somers BOE Meeting

Somers school board members meet tonight at 7 p.m. at the middle school library.

4. Lakeland School in Session on Friday

Due to last Friday, March 8, school closing, Lakeland schools will now be in session for all students on Friday, March 22. It was originally scheduled as a Superintendent's Conference Day for staff only.

5. Senior Benefits Information Center

The senior benefits information center will be held today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the John C. Hart Memorial Library in Shrub Oak. For more information call (914) 245-5262.
