14-Year-Old Girl Shot, Killed In North Charlotte
An 18-year-old suspect is in jail charged with involuntary manslaughter and statutory rape.
CHARLOTTE, NC — A 14-year-old was shot and killed Friday according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police; an 18-year-old has been arrested and charged with her death.
The girl was discovered near 2600 Olando Street and while medics tried to save her, it was too late and she was pronounced dead on the scene. The girl has been identified as Vanessa Sarai Santos.
The department's Crime Scene Search unit as well as the DA's office and other agencies assisted in the case, ultimately leading to the arrest of Junio Alexis Ramos Estrada, 18.

Ramos was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, statutory rape of a person who is 13, 14 or 15 years old by a defendant who is more than four but less than six years older than the victim and possession of a stolen firearm. Ramos has been transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
