Centene's New $1B Tech Hub In Charlotte To Create 3K Jobs
Wednesday's announcement is the largest jobs announcement for the county, according to Charlotte Economic Development.
CHARLOTTE, NC — Centene Corporation, a provider of managed care services for public and private health plans, will spend $1 billion to build a new technology hub in Charlotte, bringing at least 3,237 jobs to the region, state and city officials announced Wednesday.
"This is the largest jobs announcement in North Carolina and Charlotte's history," Charlotte Economic Development said, via Twitter.
The company's new East Coast headquarters and technology hub will be located in University City, and additional land has been purchased for future expansion, city officials said.

"We know this pandemic has turned everybody's life upside down, and we continue the efforts to slow the spread of this virus" Gov. Roy Cooper said Wednesday. "But I tell you, here in North Carolina, it has not stopped our job recruitment."
"With the option to choose anywhere to expand their company, Centene chose to invest more than $1 billion in Charlotte," Cooper said.

The announcement will have a significant positive impact on the state's economy, the governor said. "Some experts have said over the next 39 years, this project will lift North Carolina's overall economy by $29.5 billion."
The company is expected to break ground on the new facility in August.
