Charlotte Student Suspended After Reporting Sexual Assault
The school suspended the student filing a false report; however, CMPD pressed charges against a minor for the reported assault.
A student at Hawthorne Academy High School followed the procedure set forth by the school to report a sexual assault, only to find herself suspended and accused of lying.
School administrators accused the 15-year-old female student of lying and making a false report; however, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police found enough substantive evidence to charge a minor for the crime.
The student reported the incident took place at school in a bathroom stall she was pushed into and groped, according to WBTV, the station the student told her story to.

In addition to the suspension, she was forced by school officials to take a class called “Sexual Harassment is Preventable," which the student said made her feel like she was being punished for reporting the incident in the bathroom stall.
