Child Killed As More Than 80 Shots Fired Into Charlotte Home
Charlotte police said the young child died after a barrage of more than 80 rounds were fired into the home shortly before midnight.
CHARLOTTE, NC — A homicide investigation is underway in west Charlotte after a young child was killed as multiple suspects shot into his home, firing more than 80 rounds shortly before midnight Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. in the 2400 block of Richard Rozzelle Drive.
According to a police report, the child was transported to Atrium Health, where he was pronounced dead.

"The preliminary investigation reveals that multiple vehicles targeted a home on Richard Rozelle Dr. firing more than 80 rounds toward the house, and this child appears to be a casualty of that violence," Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department said in a statement. "Officers continue to canvas the neighborhood to determine what other houses were struck by gunfire."
A security camera from a nearby home filmed two vehicles stopping outside the home before multiple people got out and began shooting, WSOC reported. Eight people were inside the home at the time of the shooting, and one other family member was grazed by a bullet in the attack, the station said.

"This is a situation where we have a very young, innocent child who has been taken from the community due to the actions of some individuals who clearly have demonstrated complete disregard for the welfare of their fellow human being,” CMPD Major Ryan Butler told WSOC at the scene.
