I-485 Opens New Lane To Ease Traffic
The lane is general purpose and requires no tolls or passenger occupancy restrictions.

CHARLOTTE, NC — For the thousands of people who travel I-485 every day, a new lane has opened to hopefully ease some of the traffic burden on the well-traveled road, per NCDOT.
The new lane opened Wednesday morning at 5 a.m. between Rea Road and Providence Road.
While this lane is free and requires no toll, WBTV reports that there will be "express lanes" between I-77 and Independence Boulevard at a later date. Work has already begun on those tolled lanes and is expected to end by the end of next year.
