Police arrest teens, seize guns at Charlotte New Year's Eve celebration (charlotteobserver.com) — Charlotte’s uptown New Year’s Eve celebration saw two teens arrested on weapons charges and two guns seized, but no major incidents overall, according to CMPD. Police say arrests and gun confiscations were down from last year, and they credited multiple local and state agencies with helping keep crowds safe at Romare Bearden Park, Truist Field, and surrounding areas.
   

2. Atrium Health welcomes first 2026 babies in North Carolina: See photos here (wbtv.com) — Charlotte families rang in 2026 with some of the state’s very first New Year’s babies, including a 12:02 a.m. arrival at Atrium Health Pineville. Atrium shared photos, names, and hospital details for the newborns, while also highlighting the trust local parents place in its women’s care teams across the Charlotte area.
   

3. Insider's Camino seeks church partners for 2026–2027 pilgrimages on the Camino de Santiago (episcopalnewsservice.org) — An international pilgrimage group working with Episcopal and Anglican churches will visit Charlotte in March 2026 for the Episcopal Parish Network conference, offering a local touchpoint for congregations interested in Camino de Santiago trips. Churches that partner with Insider’s Camino can join guided pilgrimages while supporting the Anglican Pilgrims Centre in Santiago through per-pilgrim donations.
   

4. Arizona State Player Was Caught In 4K Punching Duke Player In The Junk During Bowl Game [VIDEO] (totalprosports.com) — Charlotte football fans might recognize Duke’s strong 2025 finish, capped by a wild 42-39 Sun Bowl win over Arizona State where quarterback Darian Mensah threw four touchdowns. The game also featured a controversial moment as an Arizona State defender repeatedly punched a Duke lineman in the groin at the bottom of a pile, an act that went unpenalized on the field.
