The girl's death was the 84th homicide in Charlotte this year, which has prompted frustration for CMPD officers, WSOC reported.
"This is the fourth homicide I’ve been to this week and asking for people to care," CMPD Maj Ryan Butler said following the shooting, WSOC reported. "I can talk until I’m blue in the face ... If you don’t have an emotional response about a 5-year-old little girl who is shot in the neck and now deceased, I can’t part that humanity upon you.”
CMPD said the investigation into the case remains active and ongoing and said that anyone with information may leave information anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
