Ribbon Cutting Held For New Cornelius Road Honoring Former Mayor
The new road honors Nannie Potts, Cornelius' first female and only African American mayor. Here's how to watch the event via livestream.
CORNELIUS, NC — The Town of Cornelius will celebrate a new roadway Thursday named in honor of Nannie Potts, the town's first female and only African American mayor.
Nannie Potts Lane connects Highway 21 to Smith Circle, and is expected to help ease congestion in east of Interstate 77 at Catawba Avenue.
The virtual ribbon cutting event will be held Thursday, Aug. 27 at 10 a.m., and may be viewed here.

Construction of the roadway honoring Potts, who was a teacher for 30 years before turning to town politics, began in September 2019.
