In Greenville, a tenant claims criticism of management led to drug raid • NC Newsline (ncnewsline.com) — Tenants at Clubway Apartments in Greenville say deteriorating conditions, mold, and recent water and sewer failures are putting their families’ health at risk, while city code enforcement has yet to respond publicly. One outspoken tenant, community activist Barbara Gaskins, later saw her apartment mistakenly raided by Pitt County deputies after a bad tip, deepening concerns about retaliation and how vulnerable renters can safely push for better housing.
   

2. Greenville arrest: Axe, knives found on sex offender near library (wcti12.com) — Police say a registered sex offender from Greenville was arrested after being found within 300 feet of Sheppard Memorial Library downtown while allegedly carrying an axe and several knives under his jacket. He’s being held at Pitt County Detention Center on a high bond and faces felony sex-offender premises and concealed-weapon charges, with a court appearance set for Thursday.
   

3. Greenville City Council approves $1.94M purchase for new sports complex development (wcti12.com) — Greenville City Council has approved spending $1.94 million to buy 127 acres in North Greenville for a major expansion of the city’s sports complex near Highway 264. The project would add a 12-field baseball and softball facility alongside existing ECU-leased fields, with detailed next-step plans coming to council next month.
   

4. 'We've had our best Christmas ever': Greenville holiday shopping increases at small shops (witn.com) — Greenville’s small shops are wrapping up what many call their best Christmas season ever, with record sales and strong local support despite higher living costs. Store owners credit everything from Pirate Nation’s momentum to shoppers’ commitment to buying local, and say the community’s generosity is also showing up in increased toy drive donations across the city.
   

5. Windshield Repair Uncovers Stolen Pickup (jocoreport.com) — A buyer who met a seller in the Greenville area to purchase a used Chevrolet pickup later discovered during a windshield replacement that the truck’s VIN had been altered and the vehicle was stolen. Johnston County deputies have since returned the truck to the original dealership, leaving the buyer out $45,000 while investigators continue probing the fraudulent sale.
