1. ECU celebrates fall commencement with nearly 1,800 graduates (wnct.com) — East Carolina University marked a major milestone in Greenville on Friday, graduating nearly 1,800 students in its fall commencement ceremony. With new Pirates earning undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees from across North Carolina, the U.S., and 25 countries, the celebration highlighted perseverance and the growing impact of ECU’s programs based here in the city.

2. Busy Greenville intersection gets new crosswalk upgrades (witn.com) — Pedestrians near ECU’s campus now have a safer way to cross 10th Street, with a new HAWK signal and upgraded crosswalk at Anderson Street already in operation. Greenville officials, including Mayor PJ Connelly, say this is a first step toward a future pedestrian bridge that could further protect students and ease traffic along the busy corridor.
   

3. Proposed legislation meant to get the DoD and VA working together to credential medical providers (publicradioeast.org) — Greenville veterans who use the VA clinic on Moye Boulevard could eventually see smoother access to care under a new bipartisan bill from an eastern North Carolina congressman. The proposal would create a unified credentialing system for medical providers across the Defense and Veterans Affairs departments, aiming to improve recruitment, coordination, and oversight for millions of service members and veterans.
   

4. Miss Teen All-American partners with charity to support children in Colombia (wcti12.com) — A Greenville native, reigning Miss Teen All-American Noelia Velazquez, is using her title to support children in Colombia through the cleft-care charity Smile Train. She recently visited as an ambassador, focusing on friendship and encouragement for young patients, while continuing her studies in entrepreneurship and broadcast journalism at High Point University.
   

5. Barner leads East Carolina against Campbell (gazettextra.com) — East Carolina’s women’s team hosts Campbell in Greenville on Sunday at 1 p.m., coming off a big 30-point performance from Taylor Barner in their win over Wofford. The Pirates have been strong at home, while Campbell brings one of the stingiest defenses in the CAA. Local fans can expect a matchup of ECU’s improving offense against Campbell’s low-scoring, defensive style.
