(publicradioeast.org) — Greenville-area listeners are hearing big environmental news: state regulators have approved a permit allowing Martin Marietta to discharge up to 12 million gallons of wastewater daily into Blounts Creek, part of the Pamlico-Tar system. After 15 years of legal battles and strong public opposition, advocates say they’re frustrated by limited monitoring requirements and unclear responses if damage is detected.
   

2. Greenville woman charged with felony cocaine possession, officer assault (wcti12.com) — Greenville residents may notice heightened police activity after a local woman was arrested on multiple charges, including felony cocaine possession and assault on an officer, following a traffic stop. Warrants say she allegedly gave a false name, resisted getting into a patrol car, threatened a Greenville officer, and kicked an officer in the leg. She’s had a first court appearance and remains in Pitt County custody.
   

3. Pitt County first responders Look to Rebuild after House Fire (wnct.com) — Two Pitt County first responders, including a longtime Greenville Department of Transportation employee, are rebuilding after a fire destroyed their Staton Mill Road home. The Harris family escaped thanks to their dog’s warning, but lost their cat and much of their belongings, and they’re now sharing their story to encourage attic smoke detectors and seek community support.
