Cleveland Man Hit Woman With Car, Robbed Her: Prosecutors

A Cleveland man intentionally hit a woman with his car and then robbed her, court documents said. The man was sentenced to prison this week.

CLEVELAND — A Cleveland man pleaded guilty this week to intentionally hitting a woman with his car and then robbing her.

Marvin Fisher, 29, pleaded guilty to felonious assault and aggravated robbery on Tuesday. He was sentenced this week to a prison term of 10 to 15 years. The Ohio Department of Corrections will review the case and Fisher’s behavior after he has served 10 years and will make a determination as to whether he should be released.

Prosecutors said Fisher attacked a woman in the Flats West Bank neighborhood in December 2019.

“This was a targeted attack of a woman who was simply going for a morning run,” Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley said. “He will spend the next decade in a prison cell thinking about the trauma he has caused this victim.”

According to court documents, on Dec. 6, 2019, a 41-year-old woman was jogging along Franklin Avenue, enjoying her morning run. Fisher saw her and intentionally hit her from behind with his car, court documents said.

Fisher approached the woman, who was on the pavement, bleeding and hurt, court documents said. The woman believed she had been accidentally hit, so she handed him her cell phone and asked him to call 911.

Instead of calling for help, court documents said, Fisher threw the phone into the brush and demanded the woman hand over any cash she had. The woman tried to stand up, but Fisher told her he had a gun and threatened to kill, court documents said.

Fisher told the woman to take off her shorts and sit down facing away from him, court documents said. He then went back to his car and began driving toward her, but she jumped up and over a guardrail to escape, court documents said.

Fisher got out of his car to look for the woman before driving away, court documents said. A good Samaritan driving by saw the woman and helped her before EMS was called and took her to a nearby hospital.

Cleveland police opened an investigation into the incident. Video surveillance and other evidence linked Fisher to the crime and he was taken into custody on Dec. 7, 2019, court documents said.
