📰 News we're reading

1. I-Team: No charges for security breach at Hopkins Airport (fox8.com) — Investigators have decided no charges will be filed specifically for the June security breach at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, when a man ran across the airfield after crashing a stolen car. Federal and county prosecutors say current laws don’t fit his airport conduct, though he has pleaded guilty to multiple robberies and will be sentenced next week.

2. Sinkhole closes road in Garfield Heights, frustrating neighbors (cleveland19.com) — A long-standing sinkhole has shut down McCracken Road in Garfield Heights, backing up traffic and sending frustrated drivers across lawns and through Cleveland Clinic’s Marymount Hospital parking lot. Neighbors say they haven’t seen any repair work and worry about emergency access, while city officials have not provided a timeline for fixing the problem.

3. Cleveland Kids' Book Bank raises $2M for Next Chapter Capital Campaign (clevelandjewishnews.com) — A Cleveland-based nonprofit has raised $2 million to buy and renovate a new 24,000-square-foot literacy hub in the Jefferson-Puritas neighborhood, expanding book access for local kids. The Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank, now operating from its new Mandel Literacy Hub, plans to grow distribution, welcome more volunteers, and keep free books flowing to families across the Cleveland area.

4. Wanted Cleveland woman & drunk man arrested after traffic stop in Brook Park (cleveland.com) — Brook Park police arrested a 33-year-old Cleveland woman during a late-night traffic stop after learning she was wanted in the city and driving with a suspended license. Officers then detained her passenger, a Canton man who appeared intoxicated, after he refused orders to move away from the vehicle slated to be towed.

5. Ohio labor unions, traditional allies of Democrats, have drifted right (news5cleveland.com) — Ohio union leaders are split between backing Sherrod Brown and Jon Husted, highlighting how some traditionally Democratic labor groups are drifting right while still valuing pro-worker records. One Cleveland-based union is cited as a rare Husted pickup, but Brown still holds far more labor endorsements statewide. The piece explores how union politics are shaping Ohio’s 2026 Senate, governor, and presidential dynamics.
