Damaging, 80 MPH Wind, Hail Possible In Cuyahoga County

A thunderstorm warning is in effect in much of Northeast Ohio on Wednesday evening.

CLEVELAND — Powerful, damaging winds and hail are possible in Cuyahoga County on Wednesday evening.

Winds could hit 80 mph or higher during the storm, the National Weather Service said. Penny-sized hail is also possible this evening.

"Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be heavily damaged. Expect considerable damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles. Extensive tree damage and power outages are likely," the National Weather Service said.

A thunderstorm watch will remain in effect in Cuyahoga County until at least 8 p.m.

As of 5:40 p.m., approximately 1,200 FirstEnergy customers in Cuyahoga County were without power, according to the company's outages website. The majority of the outages were concentrated on the county's west side, hitting suburbs like Bay Village and North Olmsted.

Power should be returned to impacted customers by 8:30 p.m., the company estimated.
