Damaging Thunderstorms Possible In Northern Ohio: Forecast

Powerful storms could sweep through the region twice on Wednesday. Extreme heat is also likely in the afternoon.

CLEVELAND — Damaging thunderstorms could develop twice on Wednesday in Northeast Ohio.

Two rounds of storms are possible, once in the morning and once overnight, the National Weather Service warned. As with any thunderstorm, the inclement weather could bring down tree branches, knock out power, and cause localized flooding.

The first round of storms is most likely before noon, while the second round of storms may not develop until 11 p.m. or later, forecasts said.

In addition to possible storms, conditions outside will feel extremely hot during the day. Heat indices are expected to hit 100 degrees or more on Wednesday. Take precautions if you're going to be working outside for extended periods.

A brief patch of storms hit parts of Northeast Ohio on Tuesday, leaving some of the eastern Cuyahoga County suburbs in the dark. Additional storms are likely on Thursday and Friday, forecasts said.

"There is some potential for these storms to become strong to severe, especially during the afternoon hours each of these days. Damaging winds will be the primary weather hazard. Heavy rainfall with these thunderstorms may also lead to localized flooding," the National Weather Service warned.

In addition to the thunderstorms, temperatures are expected to climb into the 90s. Muggy conditions will make it feel like it's 100 degrees outside on Thursday afternoon and heat advisories could be issued, the National Weather Service said.
