Officer-Involved Shooting At W. 117th Giant Eagle

A 21-year-old was shot in the parking lot of the Giant Eagle by an off-duty officer, police said.

CLEVELAND — A 21-year-old man was shot by an off-duty Cleveland police officer on Monday night.

At 8 p.m., the off-duty officer was working security at the Giant Eagle on W. 117th Street. He noticed an argument between two men in the store. He broke up the spat, but was told one of the men, the 21-year-old, had a gun.

The officer followed the man into the parking lot. The 21-year-old then flashed his gun, police said, and the officer fired at him.

The 21-year-old was shot in the hip, police said. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he remains confined. His injuries were not life threatening, police said.

The shooting is under investigation, police said.
