One Dead in Kempton Ave. Fire, Two Others Jump to Safety

One dead and two injured in a house fire early Monday morning on Kempton Ave in Cleveland's Glenville neighborhood.

Fire officials say one man was found dead and two others were injured in a house fire on Kempton Ave. early Monday morning.

A woman in her 30s, and a man in his 20s had to escape the fire by jumping from the second floor of the burning house, they were taken to University Hospital for treatment. A third person, a teenager, escaped the blaze unharmed reports Cleveland.com.

The fire victim has been identified as Mercus Hepner, 38, has was taken to MetroHealth where he was pronounced dead.

A fire department spokesman said that the home did not have functional smoke detectors. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
