New behavioral health crisis center coming in 2026 (news5cleveland.com) — A new $28 million behavioral health crisis center is slated to open in 2026 on the former St. Vincent Charity campus in Cleveland’s Central neighborhood, offering fast, walk-in mental health and addiction care for adults. As Cuyahoga County tightens its budget, agencies like Cleveland-based Frontline Services are already cutting crisis staff, even as demand remains high, leaving families like one Cleveland sister’s anxious but hopeful about the new facility.
   

2. Statistics show violent crime is down in Cleveland this year, though city leaders admit there's still lots of work to do (wkyc.com) — Violent and other major crimes reported to Cleveland police have dropped sharply this year, from about 87,000 incidents in 2024 to around 69,000, according to the city’s crime dashboard. Still, Cleveland remains ranked among the nation’s most dangerous cities, and local leaders say they want more neighborhood officers, tougher traffic enforcement, and juvenile justice reforms in 2026.
   

3. Ohio State Highway Patrol: Cleveland man killed after pickup truck goes off road in Medina County (wkyc.com) — A 57-year-old Cleveland man died Monday when his pickup went off Ledge Road in Granger Township, hit a guardrail, and overturned down an embankment. A 42-year-old Cleveland woman riding with him was taken to MetroHealth, as investigators continue probing the Medina County crash amid recent rough Greater Cleveland weather.
   

4. Interim Cleveland Heights Mayor Tony Cuda gives send-off for transitional government (cleveland.com) — Cleveland Heights residents are getting a new mayor after Tony Cuda wrapped up a turbulent three-month interim term focused on stabilizing City Hall, finishing the budget, and rehiring key staff with Cleveland ties. He also advanced projects like the Park Synagogue redevelopment, expanded leaf pickup, and set aside funding to fix the crash-prone Fairmount-Taylor intersection before handing off to Mayor-elect Jim Petras.
   

5. Cleveland Clinic seeing 'more drastic rise' in flu cases this year (news5cleveland.com) — Doctors at Cleveland Clinic are warning that flu cases are rising more sharply than usual this holiday season, likely due to a poorly matched Influenza A variant. They still urge vaccination, noting it can reduce severe illness and shorten how long people feel sick, while other respiratory viruses in Ohio remain at typical levels.
