Shooting Near Cleveland Deli: 1 Dead, 1 Hurt

A man was found shot to death in the street near a Cleveland deli on Sunday, police said.

CLEVELAND — One person was killed and one person was hurt in a shooting on Cleveland's east side on Sunday, police announced.

At 12:50 a.m., police investigated a shooting near E. 115th Street and Forest Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a 44-year-old man with a head injury in the parking lot of Chillie's Beverage and Deli. A bullet had grazed the man's head, police said.

EMS took the 44-year-old to University Hospitals for treatment.

Police then found a man in the street who had been shot multiple times. He was given lifesaving measures until EMS arrived and took him to University Hospitals, where he was pronounced dead. A gun was found beneath his body, police said.

The second man has not yet been identified, police said.

Investigators believe the dead man exchanged gunfire with an unknown person. The 44-year-old was walking out of the convenience store when he was caught in the crossfire, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing a man running through a field after the shooting. Officers checked the field and found a gun, police said.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
