Trump Eyes Browns Stadium and Progressive Field for RNC Acceptance Speech

Trump is considering a big stadium for his acceptance speech in Cleveland, one is mostly orange, the other has a mascot named Chief Wahoo.

Donald Trump says he wants to add a "Hollywood flair" to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this summer and CNN reports that he is looking for a big stadium to do it in.

"Donald Trump's campaign is considering booking one of Cleveland's big sports venues for his acceptance speech in July, two GOP sources familiar with the planning of the upcoming GOP convention say.

The sources said First Energy Stadium, home of the Cleveland Browns, and Progressive Field, home of the city's Indians baseball team, are the two sites under consideration for Trump's acceptance speech on the final night of the convention.

One of the sources said the campaign is closing in on signing a contract for use of one of the two venues, with the football stadium currently the favorite for Trump's speech."

A more serious, practical concern, convention sources told CNN, is the possibility that the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Finals matchup against the Golden State Warriors could potentially delay planning if the series goes to game six. Quicken Loans Arena is scheduled to be the venue for a possible game six on June 16th, just over a month before the RNC.

Of the two venues, First Energy Stadium could be a better fit (in spite of Browns' losing record and the stadium's "Factory of Sadness" nickname) than Progressive Field simply because the Browns season hasn't started yet. There are no events or games scheduled at Progressive Field the week of the RNC, however, the facility would need to be ready for the Indians/Nationals matchup beginning on July 26th.

This wouldn't be the first time a venue was changed to an outdoor stadium, President Barack Obama delivered his 2008 acceptance speechDenver's Mile High Stadium.
