Cleveland Heights Resident Wins National Merit Scholarship

A Benedictine student won $2,500 in scholarships.

A Benedictine High School student has been announced as National Merit Scholarship winners.

James C. Ryan III, of Cleveland Heights, was one of 2,500 winners chosen from a pool of 15,000 across the nation.

Ryan plans to study mechanical engineering in college.

National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Ryan's scholarship was underwritten by CONSOL Energy, Inc. based out of Pittsburgh, PA.

The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.
