Did You Hear Gunfire On New Year's Eve In Cleveland Heights?
Police received a wave of calls about celebratory gunfire throughout the night.
CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — There was a lot of apparently celebratory gunfire on New Year's Eve 2021 in Cleveland Heights, according to calls to the police and social media chatter.
Between Dec. 31, 2021 and Jan. 1, 2022, Heights police received 36 calls concerning gunfire in the city, according to Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg. Residents around the city spent the evening posting about hearing gunshots on social media. On Nextdoor, one resident said they heard gunshots starting at 9:15 p.m. and continuing through the night and into the early morning.
Residents near the Cedar-Lee neighborhood said they heard bursts of gunfire throughout the night.

Luckily, there have been no reported injuries from that stretch, Mecklenburg said. No arrests were made throughout the night either.
One resident reported damage to their house as a result of the gunfire though, she added.
