Man With Gun Threatens Cleveland Heights Officer

A man pushed the officer down and pointed a gun at him.

A man pushed a Cleveland Heights police officer to the ground and pointed a gun at him after the officer had approached him for what at first seemed to be a routine stop for a bicycle violation.

The officer recognized the man after he stopped him just before 5 p.m. July 17 near the 900 block of Cambridge Road. The suspect gave the officer a fake name and smelled like marijuana, so the officer became suspicious. He patted the suspect down, and the man confessed he had a gun on him.

The suspect then pulled away from the officer, knocked the officer down to the ground and pointed his gun at him. The officer hit his head on the pavement but managed to draw his gun as well. The suspect then threw his weapon and ran away. Police recovered the gun, but could not find the suspect after searching for about an hour and a half and using a K-9 unit. A warrant is out for the man, Michael J. Harvey, of Cleveland Heights, for a felonious assault charge.
