1. Local library's open writers' group with author coming soon (wdtn.com) — Dayton Metro Library is inviting aspiring writers to a free publishing-industry workshop with local author Christina Consolino on Monday, Jan. 5, at the Wilmington-Stroop Branch. Attendees will learn how publishing works, who’s involved, and which paths might fit their goals, with registration required. Accessibility services and more details are available through the library’s Ask Me Line.
   

2. Air Force museum debuts two new special exhibits (generalaviationnews.com) — Dayton’s National Museum of the U.S. Air Force is showcasing a rare Soviet MiG-25 in its Cold War Gallery now through March 2026, giving locals a close look at one of history’s fastest jets. Starting the week of Dec. 20, the museum will also feature “Drawn to Combat,” a major Bill Mauldin art exhibit running into March 2026.
   

3. How a mid-tier landed the Air Force's 'Doomsday' plane (breakingdefense.com) — Dayton is playing a key role in the Air Force’s new “Doomsday” plane, with SNC building massive 747-size hangars here even before winning the contract. Company leaders say this early investment and focus on open-architecture design helped secure the Survivable Airborne Operations Center program. The work promises ongoing high-tech jobs and long-term defense activity tied directly to Dayton facilities.
   

4. OPN Dec. 11 send: On DeWine's endorsement (daytondailynews.com) — Statehouse coverage this week includes potential changes that could strip education programs from Dayton Correctional Institution, depending on how Ohio defines “high security” prisons. Locally, the Dayton police union says the city missed its window to discipline several officers under state investigation. The roundup also tracks major statewide moves on prisons, youth labor rules, hemp, and more.
   

5.
