- The 13th Annual Ohio River Sternwheel Festival Memorial 5K Run and Walk, held on May 27, was a resounding success, thanks to the participation of numerous runners and walkers, as well as the support of local businesses, sponsors, and city government. The event, jointly sponsored by Memorial Health System, raised funds for the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival and was made possible by the contributions of various sponsors, service providers, and volunteers. The organizers expressed gratitude to everyone involved and announced plans for the 14th Annual 5K Run and Walk next year, as well as the upcoming Ohio River Sternwheel Festival in September. - K-9 Brody, a member of the Washington County Sheriff's Office, brought home a gold medal for explosives detection after competing in the Ohio Police and Fire Games in Canton. Deputy Mike Harlow, Brody's handler, expressed his pride in the dog's consistent success, noting that Brody has medaled in multiple competitions due to his reliability and skill in detecting explosives. The Ohio Police and Fire Games, open to K-9 units from law enforcement, military, and public safety agencies, provided an opportunity for Brody and Deputy Harlow to showcase their talents. Following their victory, Brody enjoyed a well-deserved celebration with hamburgers. (WTAP)
- Three former players of the Marietta College baseball team, Sam Mathews, Drew Holderbach, and Logan Vietmeier, have found success after transferring to higher divisions within the NCAA. Mathews made 37 appearances for the University of Milwaukee Panthers, Holderbach had a strong season for Rice University, and Vietmeier impressed at Seton Hill University. While all three players excelled in their new teams, Vietmeier had the opportunity to participate in a deep postseason run with the Griffins. (Subscription: The Marietta Times)

- The Marietta Riverfront Roar, a weekend event in Marietta featuring live music, food, fireworks, and tunnel boat racing on the Ohio River Levee, is only two weeks away. Visitors can enjoy free admission, up-close views of the boats, and the opportunity to meet the drivers and crews. Other attractions include a car show, concerts, and fireworks. - The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley is seeking help for a dog named Rune who has suffered from a leg injury and an infected eye. They are requesting donations to cover his surgery expenses and are also looking for a medical foster home for Rune to recover after the surgery. - Marietta College Men's Basketball recently concluded its Team Camp 2023, where 67 teams competed in pool play, OT Tourney, Situational Tourney, and Full Bracket Tourney.
