  1. Belpre City Schools is still experiencing staffing shortages. The school board voted unanimously to approve a temporary change to remove the requirement for substitute teachers to have a post-secondary degree. Instead, these applicants can be hired if they are "deemed of good moral character" and have a clear background check. Superintendent Jeff Greenley said many districts are having the same issues with substitute teacher and bus driver shortages. (Subscription: Marietta Times)
  2. The Washington County Home in Marietta is going to have a new roof just in time for winter. County commissioners set aside funds for the new roof as part of the $14 million package of repairs and upgrades countywide. Beth Miller, director of nursing at the 52-resident home, said, "We have felt so supported by the commissioners." (Subscription: The Parkersburg News and Sentinel)
  3. Washington County firefighters and the Sheriff's Office responded to a trailer fire in Little Hocking on Thursday. County fire departments from Little Hocking, Lubeck, Dunham, and Barlow responded to the fire near the 43 hundred block of State Route 555. One person suffered severe burns and was taken to the hospital, one pet was found deceased, and the trailer was destroyed. Officials believe the fire started accidentally. (WTAP)
