Here are the top three stories in Marietta today:

  1. Marietta Mayor Josh Schlicher has announced that the anticipated reopening of the River Trail also referred to as Duck Creek Trail, has been delayed by at least a month. The original plan was to have the trail reopened in early June, but unforeseen setbacks such as equipment issues and inclement weather have resulted in a revised timeline. The trail, which suffered a collapse in June 2020, just months after its initial opening in October 2019, has remained inaccessible since then. (WTAP)
  2. In recognition of their exceptional commitment to supporting veterans, military students, and their families, Marietta College and Washington State Community College have recently achieved the esteemed Purple Star designation. Chancellor Randy Gardner of the Ohio Department of Higher Education commended both institutions for their establishment of organizations catering to the military community. Ohio leads the nation as the first state with 46 schools holding the Purple Star designation, signifying their military-friendly environment. (WTAP)
  3. Washington County along with two other Ohio counties will receive funding for seniors who need home repair help. All three counties have been granted $115,000 which will be distributed amongst qualifying homeowners. However, the funds must be used by September 2024. (Sentinel Tribune)
