- The Washington County Sheriff's Office in Ohio is investigating the theft of an Echo weed-eater from nearby Newport Elementary School. The school reported that the weed eater had been left outside the loading dock and was later discovered missing. Deputies reviewed surveillance footage which revealed a silver car pulling up to the dock, with John Addlesburger identified as the male subject seen taking the weed eater and placing it in the car. Authorities attempted to contact Addlesburger at his residence in New Matamoras but were unsuccessful, leading to a summons being requested for his arrest on theft charges. (WTRF)
- Marietta Mainstreet organized the second Second Sunday event of the year on Jul. 7, coinciding with the conclusion of the Riverfront Roar event. From noon to 4:00 p.m., downtown Marietta offered extended hours and special offerings from local businesses, attracting attendees of Riverfront Roar. Darla Bonnette, owner of Threadz Boutique, expressed the positive impact of events like First Fridays and Second Sundays on her business, noting the significant foot traffic throughout the day and the success of the Sunday sales with a 25 percent discount. - The American Red Cross in neighboring Parkersburg will be offering Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED classes throughout July. These courses are designed to equip students with the necessary skills to recognize and provide care for various first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children, and infants. Upon successful completion of the training, students will receive a valid two-year digital certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED.
