Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:
- Peoples Bank Foundation has donated $2,525 to the Marietta Community Foundation's Dolly Parton Imaginary Library, which supplies free books to children under the age of 5 in Washington County. The donation allowed the library to clear its waitlist of children registering for the program. - Marietta College's President Bill Ruud will honor 45 employees and seven retirees on May 10 at the college's annual Employee Service Award and Retirement Recognition Ceremony at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. The employees who will be honored have reached the milestone of working full-time with the college for at least five years and then in increments by five. Two employees will be celebrated for 35 years with the college, one for 25 years, and the list continues. The ceremony serves as a recognition piece for the staff to know their hard work has been acknowledged and they are appreciated for what they do. (Subscription: Marietta Times)
- Christopher Edward Byrd of Washington County was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals on Apr. 27 in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Byrd is being charged with different counts of sexual abuse involving a 9-year-old girl. The 35-year-old male was arrested at the Aqua Isles Mobile Home Court where he was found with a stolen motorcycle.
