Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:
- A total of 14 houses slated for demolition in Marietta are scheduled to come down, with several already gone or in the process of being removed. The city has allocated $75,000 from its budget for these demolitions, with an additional $125,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act. These properties, many of which are condemned and pose a danger to the public, include some that are in foreclosure; in other instances, the owners have passed away or otherwise lack the means to maintain the properties. - The Mid-Ohio Regional Valley (MOV) Airport recently marked its 50th anniversary by organizing an open house, which served as its first event in five years. Attendees of all ages were treated to exciting activities, such as airplane tours, bouncy houses, a wood county aviation history walk, and even cotton candy. The successful open house drew in approximately 309 cars and around 600 visitors to the MOV Airport, which serves flyers across the Mid-Ohio Valley. (WTAP)
- The Marietta Chapter of the Revolutionary War Patriots of the Northwest Territory is organizing a memorial service event on Thursday, May 25. Open to the public, the event will include a 10:00 a.m. memorial service at Mound Ceremony, complete with wreath presentations and a musket salute; this will be followed by a cemetery tour and lunch at St. Paul's Evangelical Church. Speakers will also present on the Eagle Scout project that updated a portion of the ceremony, as well as on pre-Revolutionary War events like the Boston Massacre. (WTAP)
