🌱 Waterford Man Passes In Car Crash + Reduced Pet Adoptions In July

Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:

1. Earlier this week Norman L. Christopher Jr. of Waterford Township tragically lost his life in a single-car crash while driving through Washington County. The accident occurred Tuesday night around 8:30 p.m. when Christopher was heading west on Milner Road when his vehicle suddenly veered off right and struck an embankment. Although the cause of the incident is still currently under investigation, it is not believed that alcohol or drugs were related. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is using this fatal accident as a reminder to wear your seat belts, this is the eighth fatal car crash they have investigated where victims were not buckled up. (Marietta Times)
2. During the month of July, the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley will be participating in "Empty the Shelters" for another year. This means that during the month of July, the adoption fee for all animals that are vaccinated and spayed or neutered will be only $25. As of right now, the kennel is full so it is important to find these animals a new permanent home. The number of adoptions has doubled in the past during this event. It is encouraged if you believe that you will be adopting a dog you should call in advance. (WTAP)
3. In Washington County, there is a non-profit whose goal is to promote healthy youth development and habits through events, campaigns, and other services. Right Path for Washington County works on engaging with the community through various social events and building a connection. They believe it is important to work to prevent the youth from developing unhealthy habits rather than trying to correct them after the fact. At the end of the month Right Path for Washington County will be hosting a free swim night at the Marietta Aquatic Center on Jun. 30 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., there will also be a mini farmers market at the pool party.
