Here are the top three stories in Toledo today:

  1. Over 2,000 tires were removed from a Toledo yard at Tracy and Foulkes streets yesterday. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency took care of the issue by hiring a contractor to remove the tires after nothing was done by the property owner. The owner will now have to pay for the $16,700 worth of work for removing the tires – which are flammable and can become a breeding ground for insects and other unwanted pests. (WNWO NBC 24)
  2. A portion of Lewis Avenue is closed today and will continue being closed for two months. The area – between Alexis Road and Northgate Parkway – will be under construction for a waterline project. The city says a detour is in place from Jackman Road to Laskey Road. (Subscription: Toledo Blade)
  3. Toledo police are trying to identify suspects responsible for breaking into a West Toledo home in May and stealing over $200,000. The resident of the home and his girlfriend say four masked man broke in and ordered them to open the safe where their cash was. The resident's security camera caught video of the suspects who he believes may be in their 20s. Watch the video here. (WTOL)
