Education guru named among Top Ten Superintendents of 2025 (theroanoketribune.org) — Youngstown residents can celebrate that their own city schools superintendent, Jeremy Batchelor, has been named one of Education Insider’s Top Ten Superintendents of 2025. A Youngstown native, Batchelor is recognized for data-driven leadership, raising academic benchmarks, and passionately defending public education while strengthening relationships with students, staff, and the wider community.
   

2. Isolated power outage due to collision in Youngstown (wfmj.com) — An isolated power outage in Youngstown followed a Saturday morning crash where a vehicle hit a telephone pole near East Indianola Avenue, knocking the pole and wires to the ground. Ohio Edison says the situation is under control and contained to the immediate area, while Youngstown police and fire crews investigate the cause and monitor safety at the scene.
   

3. James W. Hushower, Youngstown, Ohio (wkbn.com) — Youngstown is mourning the passing of 72-year-old James W. Hushower, a North High School graduate and U.S. Army veteran who enjoyed bingo, shopping, and the outdoors. Born and raised in Youngstown, he is remembered by sisters in North Jackson and Youngstown, with arrangements handled by Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell.
   

4. YSU Student Gains Real-World Insight at Rockwell Automation (businessjournaldaily.com) — Youngstown State University is spotlighting how hands-on learning helped a local computer science major land an AI internship with Rockwell Automation. From research trips to a national lab to hackathon wins through the YSU Computer Club, his experiences show how campus opportunities can open real-world doors. His advice to fellow Penguins: ask questions, apply often, and get involved.
   

5. Linert Earns National Workforce Development Certificate (businessjournaldaily.com) — A Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber leader has earned a national workforce development certificate, sharpening efforts to grow the Valley’s population, talent pool, and housing options. Brenda Linert, of Austintown, completed a six-week program focused on aligning education and workforce needs, a move chamber leaders say will strengthen economic development across the Youngstown area.
