A Youngstown native, he’s credited with driving data-focused improvement, stronger communication, and deeper relationships across YCSD while vocally defending the value of public education.

2. About 900 earn degrees at YSU (tribtoday.com) — Youngstown State University just celebrated fall commencement in Youngstown, where about 900 students earned degrees across multiple colleges at Beeghly Center. Local stories stood out, including 83-year-old graduate Carol Skye and longtime Youngstown police employee Sonia Wilson-Green, while speakers like President Bill Johnson and jazz trumpeter Sean Jones urged grads to embrace their potential and values.
   

3. Youngstown Area Jewish Federation releases statement on Bondi Beach shooting (wkbn.com) — Youngstown’s Jewish community leaders are speaking out after the deadly antisemitic shooting at Bondi Beach in Australia, stressing that such violence shows the danger of normalized Jew hatred. The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation says it remains on high alert, works closely with law enforcement, and is urging government leaders to maintain strong security funding for Jewish institutions.
   

4. Five Penguins Reach Double Figures as YSU Tops Thiel 103-52 (ysusports.com) — Youngstown State men’s basketball stayed perfect at home in Youngstown, routing Division III Thiel 103-52 at Beeghly Center’s Zidian Family Arena. Five Penguins scored in double figures, with Cris Carroll leading the way, and YSU now turns to Horizon League play Wednesday at Robert Morris, with coverage on ESPN+ and 570 WKBN.
   

5. Experiments mix holidays and science (vindy.com) — Youngstown families packed the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County for a hands-on holiday science show led by nationally known educator Jason “Mr. Science” Lindsey. Kids helped conduct electricity, floated ornaments, launched a “Santa” down a chimney, and even made take-home fake snow, while parents learned how simple, supervised experiments at home can keep children curious and excited about science.
