• Valley lawmaker wants to rid Ohio of academic distress commissions (wytv.com) — Youngstown’s state representative Lauren McNally is pushing to abolish Ohio’s academic distress commissions, which still oversee Youngstown City Schools and East Cleveland. She argues the state-created panels have failed, noting Lorain’s removal and a statewide moratorium, and has introduced a bill to permanently take them off the books.
   

• Peace Light now available in the Mahoning Valley (tribtoday.com) — Youngstown residents can now pick up the 2025 Peace Light for free at JMJ Spiritual Connection on Canfield Road or at St. Nicholas Church in nearby Struthers during regular hours. The long-running Scouting-supported tradition continues locally despite conflict preventing the flame’s usual journey from Jerusalem, with organizers maintaining the light and honoring past leader Michael Kupec.
