1 Person Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting: Police
A fight at the Del Rancho Motel Wednesday morning reportedly escalated into a hostage situation before a Portland officer shot the suspect.

PORTLAND, OR — Portland police shot and killed a man who was reportedly holding a woman hostage at the Del Rancho Motel Wednesday morning. Police officials have not yet identified either the officer involved in the shooting or the suspect who was killed.
Portland Police Bureau East Precinct officers were dispatched just after 9 a.m. Oct. 10 to 7622 S.E. 82nd Ave. after receiving reports that two people were fighting. When officers arrived at the motel, they were told one of the people fighting had a knife and was trying to stab the other person involved.
Investigating officers learned the supposed knife-wielding suspect had entered one of the motel rooms and was holding a woman hostage. When officers contacted the suspect in the room, he reportedly threatened to kill the woman.

At this time it's unclear how the situation escalated, but eventually a Portland officer opened fire on the suspect, killing him.
"No police officer wants to use lethal force, and it is with great responsibility that we accept this authority. That is why we have a robust investigative and review process to ensure responsible transparency," PPB Chief Danielle Outlaw said in a statement. "We know the community wants to understand what occurred and we will release information as soon as appropriate. However, we ask for patience as these investigations take time and we need to ensure we protect the integrity of the investigation."

The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, officials said, adding the identities of both the officer and slain man will be revealed later.
