According to Portland police, when officers arrived at the school they spoke with a contracted security guard who explained an alarm had been activated — and that he'd heard voices from inside the school while investigating before police showed up.
As more officers arrived, they surrounded the school and setup a K9 unit to help investigate.

While searching the school, three juveniles ran from the building but were immediately apprehended by officers waiting outside.
Continuing their search, officers found a backpack containing a loaded gun they believe belonged to the suspects. The gun, police later learned, was previously reported stolen.
Inside the school officers also found evidence of vandalism, which included a broken window and paint that was apparently flung indiscriminately onto walls, lockers, and floors.
